Grizzly Bear There are currently about 60,000 wild grizzly bears currently located throughout North America. 20 to 25 years is a normal lifespan but they have reached thirty years in the wild. Normally a solitary active animal, in coastal areas the grizzly congregates alongside streams and rivers during the salmon spawn. Every other year females produce 1 to 4 young which are small and weigh only about one pound. Mothers are very protective of their offspring.
The grizzly has a large hump over the shoulders which is a muscle mass used to power the forelimbs in digging. The head is large and round with a concave facial profile. In spite of their massive size, these bears can run at speeds of up to thirty-five miles per hour.

Harry Houdini For many years, he was the highest-paid performer in American vaudeville. One of Houdini's most notable non-escape stage illusions was performed at New York's Hippodrome Theater when he vanished a full-grown elephant (with its trainer) from a stage, beneath which was a swimming pool. Joplin released four albums as the frontwoman for several bands from 1967 to a posthumous release in 1971. Cultivating a rebellious manner that could be viewed as "liberated" — the women's liberation movement was still in its infancy at this time — Joplin styled herself in part after her female blues heroines, and in part after the beat poets. Johnny Cash Johnny Cash was a multi Grammy Award-winning influential American country and rock and roll singer and songwriter.
Nickname The Man in Black, he started all his concerts with the simple introduction "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash." He sold over 50 million albums in his nearly 50 year career and is generally recognized as one of the most important musicians in the history of American music. From 1969 to 1971, Cash starred in his own television show, The Johnny Cash Show, on the ABC network. The singing group The Statler Brothers opened up for him in every episode. Notable rock artists who appeared on his show included Neil Young, James Taylor, and Bob Dylan. On September 12, 2003, Less than four months after his wife's death, Johnny Cash died at the age of 71 due to complications from diabetes, which resulted in respiratory failure, while hospitalized at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Crosby-Stills-Nash-Young A folk rock/rock supergroup. The band is known for their distinctive vocal harmonies and activist politics. One of the few groups to rival The Beatles in popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 2006, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young set off on their "Freedom of Speech" tour in support of Young's album Living with War. In February, 2007 CSN were forced to postpone a tour of Australia and New Zealand due to David Crosby's illness. In the event of Nash's former group, the Hollies, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, CSNY would become the first group of musicians to have each member inducted into the Hall of Fame twice. CSNY's second live performance as a group was at the Woodstock festival in 1969.

The Police are a three-piece rock band consisting of singer/bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart Copeland. Their 1983 album Synchronicity was number one in the UK and the US, and went Platinum eight times in the US. The Police reunited in 2007 to perform at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards. They announced they will be touring together in 2007, and playing at the Live Earth concert in July 2007.

They became a key member of the Seattle grunge explosion, along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. John F Kennedy, 35th President of the United States. In 1960 he became the youngest man ever elected president of the United States. He served from 1961 until his assassination in 1963. The Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the building of the Berlin Wall, the Space Race, the American Civil Rights Movement and early events of the Vietnam War took place during his presidency. In the spring of 1941, Kennedy volunteered for the U.S. Army, but was rejected, mainly because of his troublesome back. Nevertheless, in September of that year, the U.S. Navy accepted him. On August 2, 1943, Kennedy's boat, the PT-109, was taking part in a nighttime patrol near New Georgia in the Solomon Islands. It was rammed by a Japanese destroyer. Kennedy was thrown across the deck, injuring his already-troubled back. Still, Kennedy towed a wounded man three miles in the ocean, arriving at an island where his crew was rescued.

Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981 – 1989). In his inaugural address, Reagan addressed the economic malaise he inherited, arguing: "Government is not the solution to our problems; Government is the problem." On January 20, 1981 while Reagan was delivering his inaugural address, just 30 minutes into his term, 52 American hostages, held by Iran for 444 days were set free.

Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd President of the United States, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson served as the wartime Governor of Virginia (1779–1781), first United States Secretary of State (1789–1793) and second Vice President (1797–1801), before becomming the 3rd President of the United States. Jefferson achieved distinction as an horticulturist, statesman, architect, archaeologist, paleontologist, author, inventor, and the founder of the University of Virginia. He was born in Albemarle County (Shadwell, then Edge Hill, Virginia), on 13 April 1743.

William Jefferson Clinton presided over the longest period of peace-time economic expansion in American history, which included a balanced budget and a federal surplus. Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States from March 4, 1861 to April 15, 1865. As an outspoken opponent of the expansion of slavery and a political leader in the western states, he won the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was elected president later that year. Scholars rank Lincoln among the top three U.S. Presidents, with the average of those surveyed placing him at number one. Lincoln was known for appointing his political rivals to high positions in his cabinet to keep in line all factions of his party — and to let them battle each other and not combine against Lincoln. Lincoln preserved the United States by leading the defeat of the secessionist Confederacy in the American Civil War.

Grandma Moses renowned American folk artist, began painting in her 70's after a career in embroidery. She celebrated her 100th birthday on September 7, 1960, She lived to be 101 years of age. Art Deco was a popular design movement from 1920 until 1939, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design, and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts, and film. This movement was, in a sense, an amalgam of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Atlanta Hawks Three years ago, in coach Mike Woodson's first season in charge, the Hawks bottomed out going 13 - 69 in the NBA's all time worst performance. The camera or camera obscura is the image-forming device, and photographic film or a silicon electronic image sensor is the sensing medium. The respective recording medium can be the film itself, or a digital electronic or magnetic memory. Any way you approach it Photography is fun and you can learn a lot about angles and composition from viewing other photographer's work. All photography was originally monochrome, or Black and White . Even after Color film was readily available, black-and-white photography continued to dominate for decades, due to its lower cost and its "classic" photographic look. In modern times, black-and-white has mostly become a minority art form, and most photography has become color photography.

Camera controls are inter-related, the total amount of light reaching the film plane (the "exposure") changes with the duration of exposure, aperture of the lens, and focal length of the lens (which changes as the lens is zoomed). The duration of an exposure is referred to as shutter speed, often even in cameras that don't have a physical shutter, and is typically measured in fractions of a second. Aperture is expressed by an f-number or f-stop (derived from focal ratio), which is proportional to the ratio of the focal length to the diameter of the aperture. If the f-number is decreased by a factor of the square root of 2, the aperture diameter is increased by the same factor, and its area is increased by a factor of 2. The f-stops that might be found on a typical lens include 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22, 32, where going up "one stop" (using lower f-stop numbers) doubles the amount of light reaching the film, and stopping down one stop halves the amount of light. Exposures can be achieved through various combinations of shutter speed and aperture. For example, f/8 at 1/125th of a second and f/4 at 1/500th of a second yield the same amount of light. The chosen combination has an impact on the final result. In addition to the subject or camera movement that might vary depending on the shutter speed, the aperture (and focal length of the lens) determine the depth of field, which refers to the range of distances from the lens that will be in focus. For example, using a long lens and a large aperture (f/2.8, for example), a subject's eyes might be in sharp focus, but not the tip of the nose. With a smaller aperture (f/22), or a shorter lens, both the subject's eyes and nose can be in focus. With very small apertures, such as pinholes, a wide range of distance can be brought into focus. Image capture is only part of the image forming process. Regardless of material, some process must be employed to render the latent image captured by the camera into the final photographic work. This process consists of two steps, development, and printing. During the printing process, modifications can be made to the print by several controls. Many of these controls are similar to controls during image capture,
while some are exclusive to the printing process.

Berenice Abbott
(July 17, 1898 – December 9, 1991), was an American photographer best known for her black-and-white photography of New York City architecture and urban design of the 1930s. Abbott was part of the straight photography movement, which stressed the importance of photographs being unmanipulated in both subject matter and developing processes. Throughout her career, Abbott's photography was very much a display of the rise in development in technology and society. Her works documented and praised the New York landscape. This was all guided by her belief that a modern day invention such as the camera deserved to document the 20th century.
Margaret Bourke White
June 14, 1904 – August 27, 1971, was an American photographer and photojournalist. In 1929, she accepted a job as associate editor of Fortune magazine. In 1930, she became the first Western photographer allowed into the Soviet Union. She was hired by Henry Luce as the first female photojournalist for Life magazine. Bourke-White was the first female war correspondent and the first woman to be allowed to work in combat zones during World War II. In 1941, she traveled to the Soviet Union just as Germany broke its pact of non-aggression. She was the only foreign photographer in Moscow when German forces invaded. Taking refuge in the U.S. Embassy, she then captured the ensuing firestorms on camera.

NASCAR is the largest sanctioning body of motorsports in the United States. The three largest racing series sanctioned by NASCAR are the NEXTEL Cup, the Busch Series and the Craftsman Truck Series. It also oversees NASCAR Regional Racing, the Whelen Modified Tour, and the Whelen All-American Series. NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 39 states, Canada, and Mexico. From 1996 to 1998, NASCAR held exhibition races in Japan, and an exhibition race in Australia in 1988.

NASCAR was founded by William France, Sr., on February 21, 1948, with the help of several other drivers of the time. The points system was written on a bar
room napkin. The original plans for NASCAR included three distinct divisions: Modified, Roadster, and Strictly Stock.

NASCAR made major changes in its structure in the early 1970s. The top series found sponsorship from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (RJR). Tobacco companies, which had been banned from television advertising, found a popular and demographically suitable consumer base in NASCAR fans and engaged NASCAR as a promotional outlet. As a result of that sponsorship, the top competitive series became known as The "Winston Cup" starting in 1971, with a new points system and some significant cash benefits to compete for championship points. Also in 1971, the NASCAR season was shortened from 48 races to 31. For these reasons, 1971 is often acknowledged as the beginning of NASCAR's "modern era".
